The current Ottawa city flag was adopted in 2000. It consists of a stylized ‘O’ on a blue and green background. The ‘O’ has been created in such a way to represent multiple meanings. One would be Ottawa’s forward thinking mentality including hope, harmony and working together toward a common goal, another would be a nod to the maple leaf and a third to depict the Parliament Buildings in the Nation’s capital. The blue in the background represents the city’s rivers and waterways, the green to remind of the city’s quality of life and plentiful green spaces.
