The current flag of Houston was adopted in 1915. Like many other Texas city flags, it displays the ‘Lone Star’ prominently in white. Inside the star is the city’s seal. The seal consists of another ‘Lone Star’ as well as a 4-4-0 locomotive (interesting enough the seal sported this locomotive even before the railroad reached Houston). Finally, a plow signifies the cultivation of cotton, a cash crop that helped define the city’s history.
