Boston…one of the oldest cities in America. The current flag of Boston was adopted in 1917. It is supposed to be a continental blue with the city’s seal in the center (predominantly made up of buff and white colors). This color scheme reflects the color scheme from the uniforms of Boston’s soldiers during the Revolutionary War. Within the seal are the words, “Sicut parties sit deus nobis.”, meaning “God be with us as He was with our fathers”, as well as “Civitatis regimen donate AD 1822”, meaning “the city was incorporated in 1822”. The seal’s center depicts a view of the city as it stood in the year 1823. It shows the Massachusetts State House and ships in the harbor. Below the ships it says, “Bostonia | Conduit AD | 1630”, meaning “Boston was founded in 1630”.
